Charlie Gammell is one of the UK’s foremost experts on the Middle East and Afghanistan.

With two decades of experience working in the region, Charlie’s professional experiences span diplomatic, NGO, commercial and academic roles. His advisory services, grounded in a deep linguistic, historical and cultural understanding of what makes these regions move, are unique in their depth of understanding, and offer clients access to a network of contacts spanning government and commerce, academia and the Third Sector.

Charlie is the author of the critically acclaimed Pearl of Khorasan, A History of Herat and contributes regularly to a range of global publications (Economist, Spectator, TLS), and his views are often sought on Iran and the Middle East’s fast moving events by outlets such as Sky News, Times Radio and the BBC. He has lectured at universities around the world, from Yale to SOAS, and continues to contribute to the academic debate on the history of Iran through his scholarly articles
